Mother and Baby Exposition organised in Ramallah
The ‘Mother and Baby Exposition’ was organized by SPARK as part of MFS II, an entrepreneurship development programme which promotes entrepreneurship and job creation. This Expo was held to encourage female Palestinian entrepreneurs to promote and advertise their enterprises. This three day event took place from August 4th to the 6th at the Movenpick hotel Ramallah. Twenty two members of the Business Development Centre, the technical arm of the Business Women Forum, participated in the Mother and Baby Expo. This expo was organised to provide an opportunity for Palestinian women to network and create new business deals. Mira Zaatari from Hebron, the owner of the leather company “Camels Sandals” said: “the exhibition was a great opportunity to introduce my work and my company to other cities such as Ramallah, as I usually only trade and network in Hebron. The visitors were so happy to know about my business and to see the different products”.
The event was visited by hundreds of people, who travelled from different cities all over the occupied Palestinian territories, and showed great interest in the high-quality, handmade products displayed. There diversity of products and handicraft drew compliments from visitors who admired the jewelry, accessories, textiles, food, soap and leatherwear. The businesswomen said that participating in such exhibitions is important not only for generating revenue, but also making new connections and securing new trade, perfect for women who already own businesses and yet are struggling to expand. Howaida Abu Yaqoub is a businesswoman from Nablus and founder of ‘Meera Soap’ makes natural soap from traditional Palestinian olive oil. She was delighted by the events outcome: “I’ve had the opportunity to meet three owners of big pharmacies in Palestine who are interested to sell my soap, and have asked me for different orders.”
