IGNITE Syria: Enabling Communities to Rebuild and Rise

On 15 February 2025, SPARK, in collaboration with local partners JCI Syria, Hermon, and ICC Syria, will host the IGNITE Conference under the theme ‘Rise and Rebuild’.This one-day event in Damascus will focus on early recovery strategies for conflict-affected communities by placing higher education, entrepreneurship, and employability at the heart of the discussion.

With over 40 organisations from Syria and across the MENA region participating, the conference will offer a rare opportunity for dialogue between entrepreneurs, NGOs, policymakers, academics, and industry leaders. Together, they will exchange ideas, form partnerships, and outline a roadmap for sustainable reconstruction.

At SPARK, we are committed to supporting displaced Syrians wherever they are. We advocate for unrestricted humanitarian aid and unconditional funding to help families recover, rebuild their lives, and regain independence.

IGNITE Amman - Held in December 2024

What to Expect from IGNITE Syria?

IGNITE stands out as the only global event dedicated to job creation for youth, women, and refugees living in emerging economies. This year’s ‘Rise and Rebuild’ captures the urgency of Syria’s recovery process while addressing the many challenges that intersect – economic instability, education gaps, and the need for meaningful employment opportunities.

As SPARK CEO Christel Bultman puts it: “Years of conflict in Syria have hindered the country’s ability to keep pace with global advancements, whether in digital transformation or emerging challenges like climate change. As Syria enters a reconstruction phase, it is crucial to support these efforts by fostering decent job opportunities, enhancing higher education outcomes, and ensuring sustainable development.”

Conference Highlights

The conference will explore how higher education can serve as a catalyst for economic recovery. Key discussions will address aligning university curricula with market demands, bridging the gap between education adn employment, and learning from international experiences, such as the Bologna process and Turkey’s education reforms.

Workshops will encourage academics, employers, policymakers, and students to collaborate on practical solutions for developing market-driven skills and promoting long-term economic resilience.
